Atin Aya

Confesso que, até há muito pouco tempo atrás, desconhecia o nome de Atin Aya , um grande fotógrafo espanhol, daqueles cuja linha de trabalho me fascina.

Precocemente desaparecido, morreu em 2007 com apenas 52 anos de idade, o trabalho deste sevilhano é um fascinante exercício de etno-fotografia da sua Andaluzia natal. Talvez a essa sua percepção de uma realidade social marcante, não seja alheia a sua formação académica de base. De facto, Atin licenciou-se em Psicologia antes de iniciar os estudos em fotografia na escola Photocentro de Madrid.

Regressado a Sevilha, inicia-se pela fotoreportagem para publicações de referência (veja-se a série que fez sobre a Real Maestranza, 1996). Terá então aperfeiçoado seu instinto de captura do momento, de caçador de imagens.

Passou, depois, para trabalhos em séries de grande coerência técnica e estética. O seu talento de composição é absolutamente notável, certamente inspirado nos grandes pintores clássicos. Um fotógrafo de pessoas, de emoções, de sentimentos.

El Bueno, El Feo y El Malo é um blogue invulgar, pela abordagem e pelo estilo fotográfico. Para mais, o título remete para o imaginário do western-spaghetti de Clint Eastwood e Sergio Leone. Uma preciosidade.

Não identificado o autor, aqui fica a “assinatura” que nos deixa e a amostra do seu talento fotográfico.

After about 8 years of visiting friends in the Pre-Pyrenees and enjoying the hills, abandoned villages, green valleys, rivers and mountains, I got the opportunity to live in Zaragoza with ‘mi novia’ and now I can enjoy the provence Aragon and its ‘Bueno, Feo y Malo’ surroundings to the fullest. Here’s the result of my love for photography and all that mother nature gives and takes back from us. Starting on the 25th of August 2011 I’m celebrating the fact that I’ve been living and enjoying life in Aragon and Spain by trying to up the stakes to one photo a day for the year to come…

Tino Soriano

Tino Soriano é um dos grandes nomes da fotografia contemporânea. Premiadíssimo, distinguidíssimo pelo seu trabalho, o espanhol é uma referência da fotografia de documentário, de viagem e de reportagem.

Não deixem de fazer uma visita prolongada ao site de Tino Soriano e apreciem o trabalho de um grande fotógrafo, para mim, pessoalmente, um dos maiores fotógrafos da actualidade.

Comovam-se, como eu, com as impressionantes séries que dedicou a “Fotografia e Medicina”, retratando a condição humana, quando afectada pela doença, de uma forma sóbria e terna.

Admirem as séries de fotografia de viagem e os trabalhos comissionados pela National Geographic (um dos quais fotografado em Portugal).

Em todos, uma fotografia admirável ! Imperdível!

“Nacido en Barcelona y premiado con numerosos galardones nacionales e internacionales como el Humanity Photo Award de la Unesco en cinco ocasiones y el Lente de Plata mexicano. Posee cuatro distinciones Fotopres, el galardón humanista “The Essence of Humanity” de Nueva Zelanda y el premio fotoperiodístico más prestigioso del mundo, el World Press Photo, concedido en 1998 en la categoría Arte. En el año 2011 recibe dos nuevos “Humanity Photo Awards” de la Unesco y la CFPA (China Folklore Photographic Association).

Su trabajo personal sobre el mundo de la Medicina, emprendido en 1987, le supuso un reconocimiento especial de la Academia de Ciències Mèdiques de Catalunya y de la Organización Mundial de la Salud por su labor de divulgación de esta ciencia a través de sus reportajes fotográficos.

Figura en el selecto grupo de docentes-expertos de la National Geographic Society por su amplia experiencia educativa. Desde 1978, año en que empezó a colaborar en la revista “Flash Foto” con diversos artículos técnicos, ha impartido clases y conferencias en el Centro Internacional de Fotografía, en EFTI de Madrid, en I.D.E.P. de Barcelona, en el Institut d’Estudis Fotogràfics de Barcelona, en la Universitat de Periodisme Pompeu i Fabra, en los Encuentros de Fotoperiodismo de la Fundación Santa María de Albarracín, en la Escola de Fotografía de l’Universitat Politècnica de Terrassa, en la Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (Diplomatura de Post-grado en Fotoperiodismo), Universitat de Lleida, Universitat de Valencia, Universidad de Andalucía, en el Centro Andaluz de Fotografía y en el Centro de Estudios Latino Americanos de la Universidad de Berkeley, en Estados Unidos. También es Director artístico del Festival FOTONATURE en la isla de La Palma desde sus inicios en 2010.”

Sebastián Liste

Sebastián Liste é um jovem fotógrafo e sociólogo espanhol, actualmente radicado no Brasil.

O trabalho que desenvolve é a bissectriz das suas duas áreas de formação. E se quanto à vertente sociológico não me posso pronunciar, o lado fotográfico é absolutamente esmagador. Há muito tempo que não via nada com um impacto tão forte, tão avassalador, tão cruamente real.

Para os malabaristas da técnica, aqui está a resposta brutal da fotografia de verdade. Para os intelectualóides da “linguagem conceptual”, seja lá isso o que for, aqui têm a resposta brutal da fotografia da realidade.

Escolhi algumas das imagens mais pacíficas do trabalho de Liste para aqui mostrar. Não deixem, por nada, de visitar o site, mas preparem-se para um murro no estômago.

Sebastian Liste, um enorme talento, um grande fotógrafo, um nome a fixar.

Sebastian Liste was born in 1985 in Alicante, Spain. He obtained a Bachelors degree in Sociology at UNED, and a Masters of Arts in Photojournalism at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He is a photographer and a sociologist working across many aspects of contemporary life in Latin America and the Mediterranean Sea area, regions where he grew up and which he knows well. He is currently living between Brazil and Spain.

Sebastian’s extensive documentary work has focused on the lives of diverse communities around the world. By 2009, when Sebastian finished his undergraduate studies, he had visited over 20 countries, including Laos, Ethiopia, Mexico, Mali, Cuba, Nepal, amongst others, where he created visual communication projects based on his deep knowledge of social issues.

On these long-term projects Sebastian, explores the profound cultural changes that occur in our contemporary world. His personal and intimate stories fluctuate between documenting daily life in struggling communities to that of his own family.

His work is enriched by the closeness to his subjects. One issue that he is particularly passionate about, and has been constant in his work, is the culture of resistance, examining how human beings transform their immediate environment to survive. He documents how contemporary life in a community is created and shaped, as we are living an important time in which our way of life is changing and disappearing at the same time, along with our feeling of belonging and identity.

In 2010, while he was attending a Master degree in Photojournalism at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, he won the Ian Parry Scholarship for his long term project “Urban Quilombo”, about the extreme living conditions that dozens of families face, who set up home in an abandoned chocolate factory in Salvador de Bahia, Brazil. The same year he was named the young editorial photographer of the year at the Lucie Awards in New York.

Since then, his work has appeared in TIME Magazine, The Sunday Times Magazine, Burn Magazine, Photo District News, Private Photo Review, The British Journal of Photography, Daylight Magazine, GUP Magazine and Hotshoe Magazine, amongst other publications.

Sebastian’s work has been internationally recognized in awards by POYi, The Overseas Press Club of America, Sony World Photography Organisation, NPPA, Lucie Awards, PDN Photo Annual, Paris PX3, Anthropographia Human Rights Award, Daylight/CDS Awards, CENTER Awards, Freelens Awards, The PGB Awards, Renaissance Prize, Terry O’Neill Award, and others. In 2011, Sebastian was also selected to participate in the 18th World Press Photo Joop Swart Masterclass in Amsterdam.

In 2012, Sebastian was announced as the winner of the City of Perpignan Remi Ochlik Award, the Community Awareness Award at POYi, as one of the 30 photographers to watch at PDN 30, and received a Citation at the Olivier Rebbot Award. In addition, he received a Magnum Emergency Fund Grant to develop his new project in the Brazilian Amazon.

Sebastian’s work has been exhibited internationally in numerous shows and festivals including Look3 Festival of the Photograph (USA, 2012), ImageSingulieres Festival (France, 2012), Galerie de l’Instant (France, 2012), Lumix Festival for Young Photojournalism (Germany, 2012) Visa pour L’Image (France, 2011), Noorderlicht Photo Festival (Netherlads, 2011), Angkor Photo Festival (Cambodia, 2011), The New York Photo Festival (USA, 2011), Speos Gallery (Paris, 2011), Ring Cube (Tokio, 2011), Maison des Arts du Grutli (Swizerland, 2011), Gallery 291 (San Francisco, 2011), Getty Images Gallery (London, 2010) and Host Gallery (London, 2010). His work is held in the permanent collection of The Sorigue Foundation in Lerida, Spain.
